PILATES
Move, breathe, strengthen and lengthen using time-tested repertoire that fuse mind and body in synchronization.
THE PILATES DIFFERENCE
Many exercise fads come and go, but Pilates stands the test of time because it is both physically and mentally integrated and effective. Pilates is a full-body strength training regimen whose primary goal is to build core and trunk strength and stability while also developing long, lean musculature. Pioneered in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates, the discipline emphasizes the balanced development of the body through trunk stabilization / conditioning, flexibility, and postural awareness in order to support efficient, bio-mechanically sound movement. As you develop your core strength you develop stability throughout your entire body.
Using the breath as a primary focus, we are able to move our bodies and our own energy through breath patterns that create mental and physical freedom through their precise application. Pilates is both free and controlled, creating specific balance within while also enabling freedom of movement throughout and beyond our physical forms. Body, mind, and spirit come together in the space of the Pilates method. After 20 years of practice, Pilates still feels like a new journey of self-discovery.
One of the best things about the Pilates method is that it works so well for a wide range of people. Athletes and dancers love it, as does anyone working through the various stages of physical rehabilitation. In addition, women turn to Pilates both during and after pregnancy to re-shape the body, and adventure-seekers love the fact that Pilates movements directly support the skills required to play golf, rock-climb, ski/snowboard, run, and more.
Pilates is done on specialized pieces of equipment (Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, Ladder Barrel), as well as on the mat using a host of smaller, specific props. Mat work can be coached online anywhere, anytime.
